On "Professor Jiang" and his bullshit

I didn't want to believe it at first, because this dude had put out some content that I agreed with and I had gotten swept up in the hype like many other people, and unfortunately at first I didn't do my due diligence. But "Professor Jiang" of the YouTube channel Predictive History is actually full of shit and is a bona fide quack, and that's being very polite. He's stated such nonsense as "there's no concrete evidence for the Holocaust", that "all of Roman history is a lie" and that evolution doesn't apply to humans. The initial red flag for me was in a video about the current Iran war, where he claimed that the US doesn't produce anything because everything's made in China. But in reality, the US produces all of its main weapon systems, including fighter jets, missiles and other arms. In keeping with Jiang's "predictive history" shtick, I predict that he will soon lean into the UFO topic to further dumb people down while pretending to educate them. It's truly alarming and sinister how easily vast swathes of people go for these quack "educators." Jiang appears to be a Christian fanatic, an antisemite, and a Trump afficionado to boot, and also dabbles in moon landing denial and numerology, as well as Pizzagate conspiracism. It wouldn't in the least surprise me if he is a member of an I AM Activity offshoot. The ironic thing is that, like fascist high priest of QAnon Mike Flynn, Jiang is teaching people a heretical version of Christianity that would actually, by the tenets of that faith, send them to hell. Flynn recited Theosophically inspired "I AM" prayers virtually word for word in front of thousands of Christians and got them to chant along like blind sheep. In a creepily similar type of dynamic, Jiang claims that Jesus is the manifestation of the "Monad", that the world is run by a collection of secret societies (including the obligatory Jewish ones), and that his own creativity and ideas come from "tapping into the vibe." (In other words, New Age woo) He's either bat shit insane or he's incredibly dishonest and cynical. He's likely a sociopath. Whatever he is, he shouldn't be presenting himself as an educator, to say the very least. I don't think I'm too cynical myself in supposing that he might even be an aspiring cult leader.

I've watched the following debunk videos (including one by a professional archaeologist) that break down the problems in his "analyses" and "predictive history" (in which he misapplies game theory, a branch of mathematics that he makes a huge hay over). Here are AI generated summaries of those videos (don't worry, I can vouch for the content of these summaries since I've watched the videos in full. I encourage everyone to likewise watch them should an item pique your curiosity).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSiS-8Msn1I "Debunking the Fake Historian Taking Over the Internet: Professor Jiang's Predictive History":

This video by Archaeology with Flint Dibble is a thorough debunking of Xueqin Jiang and his YouTube channel, Predictive History. Dibble argues that Jiang, a school teacher, uses pseudohistory and conspiracy theories masked as academic analysis.

Key Points of the Debunking:

Questionable Methods (2:18): Jiang claims his insights come from channeling a higher force rather than traditional historical research.

False Roman History (7:48): Dibble breaks down Jiang's inaccurate claims regarding Hannibal and the Punic Wars, showing a lack of understanding of primary sources like Polybius (9:56).

Pseudohistory Claims (22:08): The video addresses Jiang's baseless claims about Gobekli Tepe and lost civilizations.

Dangerous Ideologies (37:25): Dibble highlights Jiang's promotion of antisemitic conspiracy theories and dangerous ideas concerning World War II and evolution (25:40). [including that there's no "concrete evidence" for the Holocaust. He's also stunningly ignorant about the basics of human evolution]

Admission of Fabrication (41:54): The video concludes by showing Jiang admitting his work is based on speculation and voices in his head rather than evidence.

https://youtu.be/pyuZN07l0DQ?si=1JVWQQNRH0o6La__ "Professor Jiang is a TOTAL FRAUD"

This video is a detailed debunking and criticism of Professor Jiang from the YouTube channel Predictive History, presented by The Kavernacle.

The video argues that despite Jiang's massive popularity and claims of using game theory to predict geopolitical events (0:00-0:30), he is actually a fraud with no legitimate academic background in history or geopolitics (8:00-9:15).

Key critiques presented in the video include:

Lack of Credentials: Jiang holds a bachelor's degree in English literature from Yale and has a background in education administration, not academic history (8:00-9:00).

Historical Inaccuracies: The video highlights Jiang's flawed understanding of history, such as his incorrect claim that the American genocide of Native Americans was met with little resistance (9:30-11:00).

Absurd Predictions: Jiang argues that Germany, Japan, and Israel will become the next great global superpowers because they have historically suffered or been humiliated (13:10-15:00).

Conspiracy Theories: The video accuses Jiang of promoting dangerous conspiracy theories, including claims that Jared Kushner is a replacement for Jeffrey Epstein to bring about eschatological end times (25:30-31:00), and that Wall Street funded the Bolshevik Revolution just to take control of the Romanov family's foreign bank accounts (37:30-46:00).

Misunderstanding of Islam: Jiang is criticized for claiming Iran intends to establish a Pax Islamica by inciting a global Shia jihad (31:30-37:00), which The Kavernacle argues shows a fundamental misunderstanding of regional politics and the divide between Shia and Sunni populations (34:30-37:00).

The Kavernacle concludes that Jiang is a dangerous misinformation agent whose popularity stems from poor education and a lack of critical thinking among his audience (6:00-7:00, 48:00-end).

https://youtu.be/3GCfNcHdudQ?si=_S9MWd4N6QSG1vVY "Why Nazis LOVE Professor Jiang (he is DANGEROUS)"

This video accuses Jiang of spreading Nazi propaganda under the guise of historical discussion. The professor allegedly claims that Adolf Hitler's primary motivation was to establish national sovereignty by resisting transnational capital and that he only intended to relocate Jewish people, not exterminate them, citing the Haavara Agreement (0:00 - 0:48, 16:00 - 17:00).

The host argues that these claims constitute historical revisionism and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, specifically linking them to the Nazi concept of 'Judeo-Bolshevism' (1:30 - 3:10). The video highlights how the professor manipulates facts to appeal to far-right and anti-Zionist audiences, potentially turning them into fascists (3:30 - 4:10, 26:30 - 27:30).

Furthermore, the video discusses how conspiracy theories generally thrive on discrediting established history and science (4:30 - 5:00). It warns about the dangers of American exceptionalism causing brain-mush among average people regarding geopolitical events, specifically suggesting that conspiracy theories about Israel controlling the US government make people more susceptible to far-right ideologies (6:00 - 9:00, 22:50 - 23:25).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cR0Mod_OR1A "Somehow Professor Jiang got even WORSE"

This video (0:00 - 33:04) features a critique of Professor Jiang, a popular internet figure known for his conspiracy-theory-based lectures on history and philosophy. The host argues that Jiang's worldview, which suggests secret societies are the primary drivers of history, is fundamentally inaccurate and distorts reality (0:00-3:56).

Key Takeaways:

Conspiracy Theory Framing: The video highlights how Jiang frames history to fit his narrative, such as claiming the Bolshevik Revolution was funded by Wall Street to destroy monarchies and nationalism (2:00-3:13, 7:04-8:25). The host points out this aligns with problematic historical narratives (3:23-3:35).

Misunderstanding Communism & Capitalism: The host argues Jiang incorrectly views communism as a virus created by capitalism to conquer the world (0:00, 17:16-18:44). Contrary to Jiang's claims, the host argues these systems do not share the same enemies; for example, capitalists and monarchies often work together, unlike communist ideology (18:44-20:56). [I should also mention that the United States, during the Cold War, worked obsessively to crush communist and leftist revolutions and movements wherever it could, yet Jiang would have us believe that communism is a tool of capitalists. The logistical complexities of maintaining such a convoluted conspiracy are also why the moon landing being a hoax is an impossibility. Jiang, wouldn't you know it, also credits the moon landing conspiracy theory]

Use of AI Sources: The video speculates that Jiang over-relies on AI summaries and questionable sources, like historian Richard Spence, which leads to historical blind spots and inaccuracies (4:33-5:11, 8:25-9:08). [In my own defense, these very AI summaries I'm presenting here were vetted by me since I watched the respective videos in full and can verify that they are at least accurate summaries. Jiang gets so much wrong that he likely doesn't bother to review the sources himself and just blindly pulls stuff from the AI chatbots when they align with his own positions]

Economic System Misinterpretation: The host refutes Jiang's take on China's economic system, explaining that while Mao's policies destroyed old traditions, it wasn't a master plan by capitalists to dominate the world, as Jiang suggests (27:00-30:00).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFznqIO35_E "Professor Jiang is a HORRIBLE Teacher"

This video is a critical takedown of the YouTube channel Predictive History, hosted by a teacher known as Professor Jiang (0:00-0:42). The narrator, a fellow teacher, argues that Jiang is a horrible educator who spreads misinformation, conspiracy theories, and pseudoscience to a cult-like following of over one million subscribers (0:42-1:30, 2:42-3:30).

Main Points of Criticism:

Misrepresenting Thinking and Reality: Jiang promotes magical thinking, claiming thoughts come from a mystical dimension called 'the gist' and that he receives ideas through 'possession' rather than hard work (4:12-9:49).

Misrepresenting Science: The video accuses Jiang of dismissing the scientific method, claiming discoveries come from dreams, and heavily misrepresenting the theory of evolution (9:50-25:44).

Misrepresenting History and Religion: Jiang is criticized for slandering Catholicism and Judaism, promoting a narrow view of Christianity, and cherry-picking historical data to fit his narratives (25:45-34:51, 35:00-45:00).

Political Misinformation and Conspiracy Theories: The narrator claims Jiang spreads propaganda for Russia and Vladimir Putin, defends Donald Trump regarding the Epstein files, and pushes extreme conspiracies like Pizzagate and the faking of the moon landing (1:15:15-1:29:05, 1:36:41-1:43:24).

Jiang claims that he does not follow a traditional writing process of sitting at a desk and doing research. Instead, he describes a process where he receives ideas while lying in bed, playing video games, or walking in the park (0:08:01-0:08:44). He characterizes this experience as being possessed by a force, explaining that he is not consciously generating the ideas, but rather receiving them from a higher source (0:08:44-0:09:28). [Diana Pasulka alludes to how some of her contacts in the world of ufology and high technology likewise feel that they are receiving messages or insights from outside powers. They at least seem to have contributed some useful inventions and ideas, even if their notion of how they came to these insights is off the mark. Jiang, on the other hand, is a complete quack who freely admits that his bullshit comes from voices in his head and from AI chatbots. He should also admit that some of these insights come from white supremacists and fascists]

Conclusion:

The narrator concludes that Jiang styles his videos like a professional college lecture to create an aesthetic of authority while providing no actual substance or factual accuracy, urging viewers to be wary of his content (1:11:25-1:13:15, 1:43:24-1:45:55).

--------------

Well, there you have it. There are various other videos on YouTube that debunk aspects of Jiang's "work". But it should be clear to any sane, rational person that there are massive problems with his claims, that he pushes pseudohistory and pseudoscience with reckless abandon, that his narratives are deeply steeped in conspiracy theories, and that these narratives are not only empirically false but outright harmful. And in the words of the dementia laden conspiracy theorist Donald J. Trump: Thank you for your attention to this matter!
